Tigers are dangerous, mKay?

me thinks maybe the kitteh isn't that keen on christmas.

Um, I think you mean zoos are dangerous, mKay?
Zoo's shouldn't be dangerous for people or animals. An ethically run zoo should do its bit for studying and preserving species that are endangered, acting as a form of ark, as well as educating the general population about the animals, their habitat and why people should care.

Ideally speaking. I hope the SF one does these.

Latest reports are suggesting that someone may have provoked the animal.
Yes I hope you're right, but I overheard a little something on the radio that they have been showing the feeding to people who want to see them acting "wild", which is not easy in such a small space... I don't think big cats should be public at SFzoo or maybe not be there at all. San Diego is much bigger. We have alot of marine life, if you want danger go feed a great white.
Yes. That's how it should be... unfortunately the zoos have to earn money to run... So, for instance, they need baby animals on display to attract visitors. The easy breeders like lions provide babies every year, but as soon as the young ones are a year old they get killed off because nobody needs more lions. There was just a big discussion in Denmark about the ethics and economy of that. - Zoo keepers argued it's more natural to let them breed and kill off the surplus than to put them on the pill...
They used to hide all these problematic sides of the business, but they're being more and more open about it.
:P It is a balance ~ one of the things I remember from yonks ago (First Year Biology degree so... 1987) was a discussion about London Zoo Bird avery about the way everyone oohs & aahs over the lovely open space

Nice, huh? OK, sick or injured bird ~ how do you get it down? Turns out the only way is to shoot it down with a hose or chase with nets because the space was not designed for humans to get close, so the keepers can't.

Sigh. The worst is a particular zoo that had photos about a tiger mothering piglets and everyone went 'awwwww'.
staged.
