Forced adoption?
OK, I don't know the full details of this story, but it isn't happening in Guatamala or some Indian state, or some former soviet block country. Nope. We are talking about the UK here.
Again, so far all the news appears to be on one side and I would like to know a bit more about the other reasons yet.. this is troubling if even margenally true:
GMTV: Forced adoption ~ A pregnant woman has been told that her baby will be taken from her at birth because she could be capable of emotional abuse
Ms Lyon has been deemed capable of causing her child emotional abuse because of her history of self-harm and psychological problems, even though psychiatrists say there is no evidence to suggest that she would actually harm the baby.
Hexham children's services, part of Northumberland County Council, made the decision after deciding Ms Lyon might harm her child - or pretend it was ill - simply to get attention.
A couple of places (hum, actually possibly the same poster in 2 places) are putting the spin that she threatened to have a termination if she wasn't allowed to keep her baby as she had said:
“The choice I am left with is whether to have a late termination or fight, knowing there is a risk they’ll take my baby away.”
Goggle for Adoption "Fran Lyon" to get a list of the stories.

How on earth can social services override psychiatrists when it comes to a mother's mental health and the potential risk she poses to her child? FFS I used to self-harm when I was younger and I was never, ever tempted to harm anyone else let alone a child.
I'm all for protecting children from potential harm, but if a bloody psychiatrist says the mother is unlikely to hurt her baby and the whole case against her hinges on her mental health, then this is the shittiest travesty of child welfare for many years.
That is the general response to the facts as they are presented :)
My sole caveat is that social services arn't allowed to go public with detailed patient/client specific information as to why they make decisions.
The UK SS are generally overworked underpaid and under-respected. End result is some absolutely spectacular screw-ups where either they have been over enthusiastic & interfering or fail to protect someone who then is killed.
*shudder*
Its not a job I would want to have!
She's got her own site now that is really good but on there she says she was 5 weeks pregs at the end of June and all the press says five months. Doesn't add up at all. Can't put my finger on it, but the social don't take our children away without any reason and this seems soooo outrageous.
As you say, I'm sure we don't no all the facts.
