Forced adoption?

Wasn't there a huge controversy in the UK about false accusations of Munchausen By Proxy a few years ago? As far as I can tell Sir Roy Meadow, who came up with the term and then leveled the accusations against several mothers in court, has been utterly discredited. The syndrome itself is hotly disputed, and even those who support its existence state that it's almost impossible (and useless) to research because it's so wide ranging (ie. there is no pattern to people who allegedly suffer from it, nor is there a pattern to why they allegedly begin harming children in their care).

How on earth can social services override psychiatrists when it comes to a mother's mental health and the potential risk she poses to her child? FFS I used to self-harm when I was younger and I was never, ever tempted to harm anyone else let alone a child.

I'm all for protecting children from potential harm, but if a bloody psychiatrist says the mother is unlikely to hurt her baby and the whole case against her hinges on her mental health, then this is the shittiest travesty of child welfare for many years.

That is the general response to the facts as they are presented :)

My sole caveat is that social services arn't allowed to go public with detailed patient/client specific information as to why they make decisions.

The UK SS are generally overworked underpaid and under-respected. End result is some absolutely spectacular screw-ups where either they have been over enthusiastic & interfering or fail to protect someone who then is killed.

*shudder*

Its not a job I would want to have!

Have been following this as a mum who has had the social services intervene with me and my son. Sounds awful for her and over the top but it is odd that there is nothing in the press or on the net from the other side of the story and my own experience tells me that the social were pretty careful to try and keep us together.

She's got her own site now that is really good but on there she says she was 5 weeks pregs at the end of June and all the press says five months. Doesn't add up at all. Can't put my finger on it, but the social don't take our children away without any reason and this seems soooo outrageous.

As you say, I'm sure we don't no all the facts.
